Built from years of listening to older adults.
Pen Pal Tree was founded by Dr. Abiola Akinosho-Williams, PhD, APRN, GNP-BC, a geriatric nurse practitioner whose career has centered on older adults, long-term care, dementia and meaningful engagement.
Why Pen Pal Tree
Across senior living and long-term care, older adults carry extraordinary stories, skills, humor, wisdom and interests. Yet meaningful connection can become harder to find as people age, move, lose loved ones, or spend more time within care communities.
Pen Pal Tree was created to make it easier for families, schools, homeschool groups, volunteers, performers, community organizations and older adults to find one another through safe, organization-mediated connection.
“A letter, a song, a visit or a shared project may feel small to the person offering it. To the person receiving it, it can become the best part of the day.”
Professional foundation
Dr. Akinosho-Williams is a board-certified geriatric nurse practitioner with extensive experience in long-term care and senior living. Her doctoral work in nursing focused on dementia across cultures. Pen Pal Tree is an independent community-connection platform; it does not provide medical care or replace facility safety policies.
